Giovedì nel mondo - Thursday around the world

is pardulas

Thursday around the world

For the fact that the world is big and many are the interesting wedding traditions, this week I had serious doubts on which place visit with you. Then looking at the photos on my pc I had a shock and i've immediately understood what to do. So now I'm very happy and proud to introduce you the traditional sardinan wedding of Selargius.

Selargius is a little village few kilometers away from Cagliari that from 1962 had returned to the tradition of the "sa coia antiga" which is "the ancient wedding" actually a real show in which take part the whole village, full of music, colours and stunning traditional costumes. For those of you who are sardinian (like my husband) knows that there is a long waiting list to get married with this "selargius wedding" as it is celebrated only once a year on the second Sunday of September and on the ufficial Selargius city hall web site there is also the detailed program of the day including the timetable and the addresses.

traditional procession

The wedding begins on the previous Saturday with the transport of the dowry of the woman to the new house of the couple.

On Sunday the couple wear the typical, traditional and amazing costumes of bright colours adorned also with is prendas which are the typical sardinian filigree jewelries.
From the respectives houses two processions starts guided by the fathers that goes directly to the church where the ceremony will be celebrated strictly in campidanese ( the south sardina dialect). At the procession all the village partecipate, even the "Carabinieri" in ufficial uniform who open the way to some women in traditional costumes who brings big wicker baskets full of any kind of sweets and bread.

The particular rite of the ceremony is "sa cadena" (the chain) where the groom wear a ring in his little finger, ring that is attached to a silver chain buond to the bride's waist...:-D please don't read in this any kind of male chauvinist act..it's only a symbol of their endless love. Then there is the promesas where the couple after having pronounced the solemn promises, they even right them on a parchment which will be sealed and kept in the church for 25 years:only at that point...hoping they are still together :-P...the couple will open the parchment and will renew their promises.

sa gratzia

At the end of the ceremony the couple still "buonded" guides the procession to their house while all the women of the village facing at the windows throw them salt and wheat for good-omened. At the door the groom's mother is waiting to give them sa gratzia (her blessing): while they are knelt she sprinkles on their heads weat (for abundance), salt (for wisdom), coins (for richness) and roses petals (for love).
In the house will be held a big reception with music and dances.

is pardulas

The typical sweets of the "selargius weddings" are , as for many other festivities, is papasinnos and is pardulas ( I link the recipe from the blog of Trattoria MuVara but it's in italian), but fantastic and tasty are also is coccois which are handmade decorated bread.

The particularity :-D...at the procession the musicist of launeddas don't miss as the famous traccas (the wagon driven by the oxen ) which bring all the furnishings of the newly-wed couple...:-P including their bed.

Le risposte - The answers

Allora domande prese a caso in forma rigorosamente anonima..
Vesti come Jennifer Lopez?

The answers

No..I haven't find the answers to the famous questions "who are we?" and "where are we going ?"...have you believed for only one second to have found in me so much wisdom!..no let's say that the answers of today will act as a test. Like the Thursday around the world. Later I'll try to find if also those are usefull or not..but for now I'm having such a big fun doing them.
This blog was opened 66 day ago. At the beginning I had few visits and some comments and this ruled my days. Today, after 66 days gone behind me, I fell kind of proud of this blog that is starting to have its own life.
I' m receiving tons of emails now of any kind from the normal information request, to opinions and ideas requets and finally to odd a little bit bizarre questions.
Well..premise..I always reply to everyone..be patient with me please...it takes me some days but I always find the right time and space to answer carefully to every query you send me and this is something that who have written me in the past knows by now...is it true that I reply isn't it? :-D
But there are persons (and from what you write me "..I have finally found the courage to write you .." a lot)who are afraid to ask me or maybe afraid of distrubing me or asking me silly questions..so..being a clever (..argg..not so much)..girl..(again argg...I'm not a girl anymore!)I will try to dedicate one day per week to some of these questions so maybe in this way I'll help somelse who is having the same doubt and who is too shy to ask directly.
Some questions in random and without names.
Can I get married on a beach?
Of course yes. And I mean not only the reception but also the ceremony. I remind to all of you the chance to get married with the symbolic ceremony. The day before the civil rite and the day after the wedding on the beach. A little more complicated the religious weddings but we can do it anyway..no problem :-D
I'm getting organized in Sardinia for these beaches-weddings but not in Costa Smeralda (it's too expencive) but I can assure you that all the beaches in Sardinia and the sea is like Maldives!
Do you work many hours?
Yes. Many hours and in an intensive way. There is always something to do and some of you know that I'm always on the move..even with my brain. I practise what is called the creative marketing..in other words I love to collaborate with others and in various ways and fields. Yes I do work a lot. From early in the morning to late in the night ..no saturdays and no sundays. What you imagine of a wedding planner life is only a movie.
If I ask you for an estimated cost, will you do it for me?
I can't think of any good reason of not doing an estimated cost for anyone. Why not?..Maybe if you are asking me to write it in russian than I'd have problems, otherwise doing this thing is a normal part of my day. Maybe it will take a couple of days because I have to study the situation to achieve the best proposal for me and the best for you. But I always replay.
How many sugarcoated almonds should I put in a sachet?
Usually in a odd primary numbers. 3 or 5 is perfect. This because a primary odd number is indivisible as so should be the marriage celebrated...let's hope at least :-P
Do you dress like Jennifer Lopez?
Decidedly no. I'm not like her and even in a milion of years I will never be like her. I remind you that that is only a movie. The real perfect wedding planner is only a normal woman. A friend.
Well..now what ?..next week if it's something of any interest for you I'll post some other answers. But please feel free to write ..I don't bite..:-D maybe a little bit but it's only for the show.

Music meme

George Michael - Jesus to a child (sempre e per sempre)
Sergio Mendes - Mas que nada (mi fa ballare)
Earh wind & fire - September (mi fa sentire senza pensieri)

Buona giornata :-D

Music meme

Chantilly and Fra had invited me to this meme and I accept gladly. There isn't only the wedding march for me eh! If it was for me this list would have been composed by only one artist, but I don't want to be boring and let you think I'm crazy so I do the serious person and put him only at the first place :-D

E' una questione di etichetta - It's a matter of labels

It's a matter of labels

As ever also today it's cloudy..and it doesn't promise anything good...I'm always on the run, but I wanted to leave here a photo to let you see the little oddnesses that time to time I wish to order from Usa to personalized in a funny and unique way a wedding.

This labels (actually you can buy the bottle but I choose only the label to be sent here) comes from myownlabels and youcan order them choosing among several patterns and colours.

Obviously I've already fallen in love with them!

Giovedì nel mondo - Thursday around the world

Thursday around the world
Well well....this week I must applaud Stefania who has prepared this description about japanese weddings as she is a translator of japanese and a deep expert of this country...so for the fact that I am a good girl I leave the place to her knowledge of jap-things and post this entry thanking her for her good job. Thank you dear.
A japanese couple can choose between two different kind of ceremonies: the traditional one and the western style one.
For the fact that the particularities and curiosities about both these ceremonies are a lot we would talk this time only of the traditional weddings and in the future we will take a better look also to the new western style ones.

The traditional ceremony takes place in a shintoist sanctuary and only the couple's families attend it. If the couple met thank to the omiai (which is an ufficial meeting between two persons for a wedding aim) also the intermediaries of this meeting called the nakodo, who are usually family's friends or trusted persons, attend the ceremony. Nowdays an alternative to this omiai are the gokon that are kind of group meeting among several women and several men again for wedding aim.
I think that the wedding dresses should deserve an intere post as they are stunning.

The bride wears a wide and lavish dress called uchikake, is wear open on a kimono called kakeshita. This dress can be with a red background embroidered with goodwill motifs or completely white (and in this case is called shiromuku). As in many others traditions around the world the white colour does not indicate pureness but onle the separation from her old life and the beginnig of a new life with her husband.

The bride also wears a characteristic headgear called tsunokakushi: this term , explain Stefania, means "hiding the horns"...obviously both she and being a little bit malicious immediately thought about something in particular :-D..but actually in japanese culture the horns symbolise anger and selfishness so a bride wearing this headgear wish to show her husband her willing to suppress those bed feelings.

The groom wears instead a special traditional garment called hakama and a black kimono with a wide and short jacket called haori.

The most important and particular rite of this ceremony is the sansakudo where the couple exchange cups of sakè and drink 3 sips from 3 different cups. Usually the receiption is held with the families and friends in a specific room in an hotel and the bride often changes dress even wearing western style dresses also of bright colours.
The curiosity? Generally the tradition says that a woman must get married within her 25 years. In fact a maiden woman over 25 is called "Christmas cake" ...:-D after the 25 is not "valid" anymore...does she have an expiring date? :-D...thanks Stefania. I take this chance to announce that Stefania and I will collaborate to organize japanese style weddings for both foreigners and italians ...will be fantastic :-D

A job a mission

"Oh come on I'm not stressed at all!!" she says to me at the phone
"I know honey you aren't " I reply
"maybe yes..just a little bit" she almost wispers me
"yes maybe a little bit" I say

My job is exactly this...I feel it..I'm aware of this since the beginning. More than being good at organizing and planning, giving ideas and advices, my "mission" of life is to be there at the part of the phone when a "tears attack" comes. To be there when anxiety tighten your breast and you don't breath normally. When the fight with your fiance arrives (often). When at 48 hours to the wedding your only thought is " how did I arrive to this point?".

Yes. My job..be a friend a confidant...pacify and give serenity..give the security that everthing is all right. The wedding planner who comes on the other side of the city just to take a coffee with you and to talk a little. The wedding planner who calls you at 10.00 in the evening to know if you are ok and tells you to go to bed early. Me..the one who always shed a tear looking at "my" bride smiling happily to her husband at the end of ceremony. Yes. What a stupid right? Every separation after all those months together makes me fell sick.

All right :-D

What do you think of the folding of this napkin?Too simple for the small dinner at the bridal shower? At least the colours match with the invitations :-D

Accetto il premio e ringrazio con... - Accept the award and I thank you with....

Buon inizio settimana a tutti!

Ora tocca a me...:-D

I premi vanno a

Grazie cara!

Accept the award and I thank you with...

I wish you a good beginning of a new week. How to begin if not whit these fantastic little sweets assembled easely and quickly yesterday evening for the test of the bridal shower dinner. They won't be the ufficial sweets of that event so I could tested them wihout making too much damage :-D! I have to thank my wonderful Parolediburro for the recipe of the lemon curd because although they look as normal and banal sweets they had great succes (infact only 2 had survive :-D) that because under those fantastic strawberries there was her lemon curd made by me with my hands :-D. Unbelivable I've done it. To say there were good it would be not enough :-P

But these little sweets are also a virtual "thank" to all of you who read my blog every day and leave such kind and lovely comments on it. And a big thank goes to Panettona for have given me this priceless award some time ago (sorry for the delay hun :-D)

with this motivation " that I know better day after day and I feel her so near..." what to say more? Every time the same situation...I feel kind of repetitive now! Thanks so much from the bottom of my heart! I send you a big kiss. I feel the same for you! Every day more.

Well the rules are here. Now it's my turn :-D

the awards go to

Grissino who always makes me smile with his comments. When he tries to be polemical and he is not able and at the end rips a smile to me and to himself

Kja I don't know her a lot but her blog is fantastic and the recipe gorgeous and moreover she is kind and sweet with me like a friend. Thanks dear

L'altra faccia del meme - The other side of meme

Buona Domenica!

So ho fretta meglio un bel gelato!

The other side of meme

Good morning! And also today it's raining! It's ok anyway :-D! Well so time ago (lot of time to tell you the truth) Twostella has invited me to do this meme which is actually the complete opposite of the other one I've already done. I apologize with her for my delay and I gather the challenge 'cause she is convinced that I won't find anything I don't like. Ah! Blessed innocence!

Indicate the blog that invited you
Describe the rules of the meme
Write 6 things I don't like
Tag other 6 blogs that has to continue the meme
Leave a message to those blogs

1)I don't like ironing. And again for the famous Murphy's law the more I don't like it, the more clothes I have on that blessed chair looking at me imploring me to finally give them a "tone" :-D
2)I don't like being late both fisically at appointments and with replies to messages and emails. For the first I leave even an hour in advance not to be late of even a minute (it won't be neither professional as my job is also organizing in the best way the time!)about the emails and messages I'm not always able to reply to everyone as soon as I wish and I have to apologize with those of you who have written me asking for advise..:-D late but I'll answer. I never forget!
3)I don't like eating in fast foods of any kind. If I'm in a hurry better a good ice-cream.
4)I don't like giving judgments on persons or facts as soon as I'm aware of some more information. As I don't wont to be judge by the "cover".
5)I don't like being far from my husband. I would rather have a pocket version of him to keep in my handbad but I've already asked the manufacturer and it seems that it is impossible.
6)I don't like disorder because it causes me caos in my mind. A tidy desk makes me feel having complete control.

Eh? I've already finished? But I...Ok so stop. For the fact that this meme was done by pratically by everyone I pass it to anyone who wish to do it. I really do apologize again with my delays but I read all of your posts (even if in late) and I think about you even more.

Better than a diamond

Yes I have to say that yesterday purchase has been more important for my soul than a diamond..more...better than a little chocolate because to tell you the truth I really don't care a lot for diamonds. They don't excited me much. I don't find them useful and stop.
But my wedding "bible" couldn't miss on my desk and now that I've found an international newsstand ..Martha you can escape me anymore!
The issue of Martha's "Weddings" can be described as a masterpiece for me full of ideas, advises, tips and I just drink from her fountain like a woman in a desert!
Joy!
Mirth!
Happiness!
Come on I get satisfied but only a magazine...for my husband happiness :-D!
Wish to you all a fantastic Friday!

Giovedì nel mondo - Thursday around the world

Thursday around the world

It will be Cuba?...naaaa...it will be Fiji?...naaaa...this thursday we'll talk about Wolof.
Ah!

wolof woman dancing

Someone is questioning who are Wolof aren't you? :-D don't worry. Wolof is an african ethnicity still existing that live among the borders of Senegal (where it compos about the 40% of the population) Gambia (about the 15%) and Mauritania (about the 7%). A fascinating ethnicity both in its history and in its traditions. I premise immediately that even if a professional figure as the "matchmaker" doesn't exist, still nowdays the weddings are almost forced by the man's families who in many cases will get married wiht his cousin: in this case the bride is called Wurudu Jabar (the golden wife) and the groom is called Xaalisu Jeker (the silver husband).
Nowdays (luckly I may add) this costum is beginning to fade and the modern weddings are in fact called Taan kila neex to say "choose the one you like".
But still today women are almost obliged to get married soon to avoid prostitution. Alarming phenomenon.
A woman must have some important requirments to be asked for marriage : - beauty - wish to work - obedience - respect for parents - belonging to the same caste - absence of bad influence.

wolof woman from '50s

The future groom actually "pays" the bride to her family, in the past with nuts and jewelery, today with money.
The day before the wedding ceremony the bride's family organize a party to show their love for her and explain her how to live with her future husband and family-in-law. In this occasion the imam and the elders give advise to the future groom at the presence of both families while the bride is away with her aunts, friends and her mother's friends. Generally the wedding last only one day and alchool beverage is forbidden.
The particularity...usually the firsts things bought by the bride with the "price" received are some kitchen utensils...:-D clever.
Unfortunately for this kind of weddings there aren't phots on internet so I give you the source of these infos which are Wikipedia.org and Wolof.org. There you can find some amazing photos but unfortunately not of weddings.

E il vincitore è... - And the winner is....

And the winner is....

For those of you who were worried....ehhhhh :-D a lot ah? .....finally abemus invitation for the bridal shower party. Roll of drums....tttatataatatatta....
After so much time I've decided for....the light blue one (for those who have no idea of what I'm talking about , read here if you are interested :-D)
I know I know...I liked most the bride on the brown one and also to most of you, but actually the light blue is more clear to read and is coordinated to the wedding stationary.
Thanks to all of you who have left a comment and a precious advise, they have been all useful.

And to all of you I give my heart :-D

Mai stupirsi - Never be amazed

Sorride
Si china
Penso "menomale un'anima gentile!"
"Belle queste bomboniere etniche!" dice.
Si rialza e se ne va.
.....

Dolci e gentili. Le migliori qualità.
Per adesso non assegno nessun premio. Mi concedo un po' per pensare . Ho così tante persone da premiare!
Un bacio!

Never be amazed!
Scene : 18.20..unbelievable traffic..myself wishing to cross the road without having an accident. Hands and arms so full of every kind of stuff : my agenda that weight a ton, little agendas for my couples, brochures, umbrella becuase today is again cloudy and it's beginning to rain, various magazines and a topper for a wedding cake just withdrawn (a topper is the little statue that you put on top of a cake for those who dont' know, but I'm sure you all do :-D)). More or less about 20 kilos. Ok this is not something that stops me. I'm used to.
I arrive at the pedestrian crossings but while I'm waiting for a kind soul who let me pass my "totem" starts to fall down. I try to keep everything in place but it's a losing war. The totem continues its way to the ground.

A woman arrives.
Look at me.
Smile.
Stopping down a bit.
I think "luckly a gentle soul!"
"Gorgeous these etnic bombonieras!"she says
Comes up and goes away.
....

I am on candid cameras, I am not?

Well ok ..pass over it cause it has been a fantastic day!
I'm literally falling in love with funny cake toppers different from the normal ones., expecially the ones I'm buying from Usa and England. They are fantastic like this one

and there are toppers for every kind of ethnicity like this

Some couples are still not very conviced but others are always well surprised when I let them see the photos for the choise . There are toppers for every taste...Who knows why some grooms are don't appreciate a lot..:-D!

I wanted to thank the sweet Mirtilla and the kind Sally for giving me respectively the third and forth Excellent award. Thanks to both. I know you a little but you are fantastic! Sweet and kind. The important qualities.
Now I don't assign any awards. I grant to myself time to think. I have so many persons to reward!A kiss!

Fatto. :-D servire con pecorino grattugiato.

"a si biri"! (ci vediamo!)

Oddness
Today while I was preparing lunch I was thinking (:-D yes I'm able to do these two things together) at how many couples will getting married during August this year. Usually the month of August was not so "used" because of the great hot..but this year the miracle..well..not really a miracle..
A lot of you may already know this thing, but when I've explained this thing to my hubby today , first of all he became pale and then started to laugh so laud!! (is this so funny?..why all these laughs?...it's in this way and stop..I've havent decide it!), I've realised that someone don't even imagine something like this. Not that you won't sleep without knowing, but these are the oddnesses that I really enjoy to know.
We were talking about my commitments for this summer and I know that some of my collegues are very busy during August and expecially they have problems with a specific date because many couples will get married on the..
08/08/2008
:-D eh? even last year and the previos one was the same (07/07/2007 ect) and also the next year will be the same..'till the 2012. But 2008 have something special and even more symbolic than the other years. Infact the number 8 in horizontal is the symbol of...yes good you know it come on...the infinity. Wow these couple are truly romantic! :-D

:-O but why my hubby is still laughing?uhmm..when he starts..:-P but actually this is a little bit funny! Ok after this stupidity I leave you with the simple recipe of today. Really simple as I didn't have enough time for cooking ..had to iron and clean the entire house..:-@ ! But it's always a tasty recipe and so easy! wha t apity that the photo is a little bit blurred.

"Sa fregola" wiht bacon and asparagus

for 2 persons (who eat a lot :-P)

200 gr of fregola (big and well toasted)
100 gr diced bacon
150 gr asparagus
vegetable broth + vegatable dice

Very easy recipe. First of all boil the asparagus , but not completely as the cooking will be finished with the fregola. Cook the fregola as any other kind of pasta ( but not completely as for the asparagus). Meanwhile put in a large pot (like a wok) the oil, some chopped onion if you like, and the diced bacon. When the bacon is browned add the fregola and asparagus chopped in large pieces. Cover everything with the broth and add a vegetable dice to give the right amount of salt and taste. When the broth is completely absorbed the fregola is cooked. Done. :-D Serve with grated pecorino cheese.

" a si biri"! (see you next time!)
